MATCH REPORT: LUTON 0 v 3 LEEDS
Luton's FA Youth Cup run came to an abrupt end as Leeds saw them out in the third round.
The two-time FA Youth Cup winners controlled first-half proceedings and goals from Fabian Delph and Tom Elliott sent them on their way to the next round.
Luton improved in the second-half and were unfortunate not to have reduced the lead when Billy Greulich hit the crossbar with a header.
But Leeds kept up the pressure on the Hatters defence and eventually found a further way through when Elliott grabbed his second of the game.
The Hatters were thankful to Ross Faulds whose impressive saves throughout the game prevented what could have been a more damaging score line.
Luton boss Chris Cummins made just one change from the side which beat Barnet 3-1 at the weekend.
In came Ashley Deeney, while Under-16 striker Adam Watkins was rewarded for his impressive performances in recent weeks by keeping his place in the starting line-up.
The visitors made an impressive start and almost took an early lead when Delph tried his luck from the edge of the area, but his turn-and-shot trickled wide of Faulds' left post.
Leeds were then hit by the injury to Tom Lees after the defender was on the receiving end of a rash challenge from Ryan Charles.
The defender was forced to leave on a stretcher and was replaced by Sam Jerome.
And the Leeds substitute almost had an immediate impact on the game when his perfectly weighted pass teed up Nathan Cartman whose driven shot fizzed wide of the Luton goal.
It was no surprise when Leeds opened the scoring on 25 minutes as a quick counter attacking move unlocked the Hatters defence.
After Leeds had cleared a Luton corner, Christopher Ovington whipped over a cross from the right that was dispatched first time with a neat finish by Delph from ten yards.
Leeds doubled their advantage on 37 minutes as the visitors continued to boss proceedings. An Oliver Hotchkiss corner caused problems in the Luton area and allowed Elliott to power a header into the back of the net.
It could have been worse for the home side had it not been for Faulds' excellent finger tipped save, as he denied Cartman's in swinging free-kick from 30 yards.
HALF-TIME: Luton 0 - 2 Leeds
After an unsatisfactory first-half Cummins made adjustments to his side and threw on Dean Hamilton after the restart.
And the change almost had an immediate effect as the Hatters created their first opportunity of the game on 55 minutes when a McGuinness corner was headed onto the cross bar by Greulich.
The trialist came agonisingly close when, with almost his first touch of the game, he towered above the Leeds defence. There were shouts that the ball had crossed the line but the referee waved away the appeals.
But despite Luton's promising start to the second-half, Leeds sealed the win by extending their lead on 70 minutes.
A slick move involving Ovington and Cartman eventually saw the ball find the feet of Elliott who needed just one touch to smash a shot against the inside of a post and into the net.
Luton continued to find a way through the Leeds defence but the visitors held firm.
