Luton's youngsters grabbed their first victory of the season thanks to an impressive 3-0 win over Colchester.

Jake Howells, Matthew Maitland and Dean Hamilton scored their first goals of the season in the second half to help secure all three points.

And Hatters boss Chris Cummins was more than pleased with the performance.

"We dominated the game from start to finish,"
said Cummins. "We passed the ball, created lots of chances and defended really well. We had worked all week on possession and keeping the ball and we did that very well. We restricted them to only two efforts on goal."

The youth boss was delighted with the second half performance and was full of praise for the opening goal, which saw first year Jake Howells score at the far post from a Jamie McGuinness cross.

Cummins continued: "I thought we deserved to go in at half time one up. We played well and created a few chances without troubling the keeper."

Just after the hour, Luton doubled their advantage when a George Beavan free-kick fell to Matthew Maitland, who scored from six yards.

And after goalkeeper Ross Faulds had kept Colchester at bay with a string of fine saves, substitute Dean Hamilton added the third seven minutes from time when he rounded the visitors' goalkeeper to slot into an empty net from 12 yards.

Cummins was full of praise for Man Of The Match Elliott Osborne-Ricketts.

"I thought the pick of the bunch was Elliott. He ran the show, kept the ball, won the ball and got his call up to the Reserves in the week.

"I also thought Jamie McGuinness did very well. He was very aggressive and he was causing the full-back plenty of problems and getting crosses in."

Cummins was pleased that work on the training ground was coming through.

"We've worked very hard on getting the wide man into the box while the other crosses so I was pleased to see that. But some of them were playing within them-selves. I still think we can do a lot more."
